song #562 ·
original
plays during an imaginary chase between a *orange cat and a *monotone rat, ended early because a better 8edo song was already made and I forgot about it
I also wanted to a bit of a Zun thing by changing the bpm by 5-10 randomly for no reason, idk why there's no analysis video for that though

2026-01-30 · comment #655im pretty sure it started with wiretap
i think 8edo is popular since it contains a few of the notes in regular old 12edo, but it's not as overwhelming without a scale as many of the larger edos (e.g. 43edo)

2026-01-30 · comment #658yeah I just chose 8edo bc it's divisible by 2 and also it has exactly 150c between each note

2026-01-31 · comment #679okay but then how come 34edo and 41edo are objectively the best EDOs???

2026-02-02 · comment #693ok yeah I did listen to the top results when typing 34edo and 41edo they were indeed the best EDOs

2026-02-02 · comment #695I don't have much experience with either, I've been working on a short thing in 41edo and part of my song weird time sig is in 34edo, but from the bit of experience I have they're really good EDOs to work with
As I've said before, one way to make higher EDOs is to not use all the notes; e.g. if you stick to a 12-note subset of 17edo then there are no more notes than 12edo, but you still get some of the nice intervals that come with 17edo. A bit like how in 12edo you often use major/minor rather than something like chromatic

2026-02-02 · comment #696so using 41edo is like using 12edo but with different sounding chords, interesting, I'll keep that in mind later, thx

2026-02-02 · comment #698I mean it can be if that's the approach you choose. Of course you don't have to :) instead of using a diatonic scale (aka major, minor and related scales) you could use other approaches, which are detailed here. ~~it is worth noting that using hemififths temperament is objectively the best method for working with 41edo i LOVE hemif RAAAHHHH~~

2026-02-03 · comment #704ok I might do 41edo far later in the future but I'm not going to do the hemififth thing consciously bc of how many terms were used in the first sentence of the wiki describing it. I think I'm just going to redo intervals until they sound well like how I did in this or the 17edo thing
