made this as a little experiment with microtonal tuning.
unfortunately i picked 8edo - which turned out to be a mistake when i realized i barely even had any good harmonies (also bc my classical 12edo music theory knowledge was completely out the window)
headphones reccomended.

2026-01-01 · comment #447A lot of the "weird" EDOs such as 8edo and 6edo don't have perfect fifths so it's really hard to do traditional harmony with them. If you're interested in traditional 12edo-like harmony I'd go for tunings like 17edo, 19edo, 22edo, 31edo, 34edo, 41edo, 46edo, and 53edo, since they have all the traditional modes of the diatonic scale (like major and minor), so you can treat them as out-of-tune 12edo. You can also tweak the notes slightly up and down a bit if you want cooler harmonies :) e.g. in 31edo playing C,E,G,Bb- gives a kind of chord called a harmonic 7th chord, which kind of sounds like a weird dominant 7th chord.
That being said, you don't have to stick to traditional theory and you can do wild wacky harmonies like this one. As you have just proven by writing this song, they can sound incredibly awesome :)

(side note: I should probably add the chromatic scale to EdoBox) You can basically just treat it as slightly out-of-tune 12edo and it will sound like 12edo music, which generally does not sound like some horrific medieval punishment.[citation needed] I mean, it can sound like horrific medieval punishment if you want it to.
